WATCH D.O.G.S. is a one-of-a-kind, school-based father involvement program that works to support education and safety. Who are WatchDOGS? Fathers, grandfathers, step-fathers, uncles, and other father figures who volunteer to serve at least one day a year in a variety of school activities as assigned by the school principal or other administrator.
As a program of the National Center for Fathering, there are more than 5,348 registered schools in 47 states that participate in the WATCH D.O.G.S. program, in addition to participation in China, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico and Barbados.
Last school year almost 400,000 men in more than 4,700 WATCH D.O.G.S. schools across 47 states volunteered at least one full day in their child’s schools through this amazing program.
- Do you have a day you can volunteer? If so, please contact Matt Hawkes @ firstname.lastname@example.org.
Come join us during the students’ lunch hour as we open the Spirit Store! Volunteers are needed every other Friday from 10:30ish AM-1ish PM.
The Hickey Spirit Store is held by PTA during school lunches on several Fridays each month throughout the school year. The PTA sells a fun variety of affordable items, including (but not limited to) erasers, pencils, rulers, wallets, gel pens, notebooks, magnetic locker mirrors and more. Prices range from $0.05-$2.50 per item.

Learning Commons: Making What We Do Possible
Volunteers are essential to the success of Hickey’s library/learning commons program. One of the greatest needs is shelving. Each week, the library receives an influx of approximately 1,000 books that need to get back to their spots on the shelves. The student Shelf Elves and Ms. Prather, our librarian, work hard to get the books back in place but many times its hard to keep up. Please consider giving the library even 15 minutes of your time! Every book you can shelve provides Ms. Prather with 15 more minutes to work with our students. You can come in any time — whether it is morning, lunch time or right before the final bell. Every volunteer makes a difference!
